annoying campaign

I've been getting extrememly annoyed at the continuous bombardment of "Support Local Music Acts" ads on the radio lately. Now, bear in mind, I have no problem with supporting local music and would listen to them, IF THEY ARE GOOD and play stuff that I LIKE.

Now what annoys me is that just about all of them have the same message, which is basically along the lines of

"Support the local acts! Why? Because we work hard for you!"

Well, bravo for you then. But wait a minute, are you saying that we should applaud you extra because you "work hard"? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO WORK HARD DAMMIT! I'm supposed to buy your music because you "WORK HARD"?? International artists work hard! Heck, I work hard!

Look its all about results. I work hard, but that means nothing if i don't show results. If i went to my boss and said "You should give me a big bonus because I work hard, although my reports suck and I dont bring any money to the company, but he i'm here 18 hours a day", I doubt i'd have my job for very long. If the local acts give us something good and worth out time (and some of them do btw), then we should support those acts and buy their stuff. But why should we support them if their product is bad, just because they've spent "hours in the studio and hours raising money to cut an album". The message is wrong and lame. I'm gonna be cliché here, but there's a difference between working hard and working smart.

Look, if your music is GOOD, people WILL buy it. But if people ain't buying, maybe it ain't very good? If you went to a restaurant and found that the food aint very good, would you be like, "well thats ok the cook works very hard". Hell no you'd be complaining and telling everyone not to go there

Or like saying support our local auto industry, buy a proton. Why? Because its local and they work hard. Well no fucking way, the car sucks. We all know the only reason anyone buys one is either a) thats all they can afford or b) your company/gov agency is being used to give sales to proton and therefore mandates buying one. If tomorrow proton gave us something decent and of quality, i'd be the first to champion them.

MAN i'm annoyed
